The ability to manage and display events is one of the most popular and sought after features on WordPress. Whether it’s a simple calendar of dates or a fully fledged event and ticketing management system, the options are greater than ever. Here is our rundown of some of the best free and premium events solutions for WordPress.
A free WordPress plugin that supports recurring events, RSVP, iCal and RSS feeds, Google Map integration, PayPal and Google Checkout payments.
A freemium plugin that is ideal for those looking for a little bit more than the free plugins out there, such as ticket sales, publicly submitted events, alternative views, Facebook event integration and a host of other features.
Events Manager is a freemium plugin with similar features to Events Made Easy but with a premium upgrade for extra features such as coupon codes and ticketing.
This freemium WordPress plugin is more a competitor to Modern Tribes premium offering with similar functionality but different formats and templates for displaying event calendars.
A premium solution for professional events. Their free ‘Lite’ version is pretty feature packed which makes it a good option if you wish to get started for free and are looking to upgrade to a more complete solution later on.
The always reliable team at WPMU have put together a premium plugin with all the features you could possibly need. The obvious benefits of a WPMU plugin aside from its comprehensive features are their second to none support. At $19 for a one off purchase its an attractive option even if you’re not a member.
Pretty much all the plugins have customization options including various templates for calendars and alternative views to varying degrees, with All-in-one Event Calendar and The Events Calendar perhaps having the best pre packaged templates. At the time of writing this post, only three plugins had some sort of social integration such as importing Facebook events, or allowing RSVP by social accounts as is the case with WPMU Events Plus. All -in-one Event Calendar is yet to add a ticketing and payments feature and The Events Calendar does not have a built in payment or RSVP handler but it does integrate with other services such as WooCommerce and Eventbrite that can handle that for you.
Alternatively there are Themes designed for event orientated websites such as WooThemes Diarise, Eventure, and others with built in event handling functionality or compatibility to event plugins. Ultimately the best solution for you depends on your specific requirements due to the nature of your events so be sure to do further research into what works best for your needs.
